Can you tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42 Inch Television set?
Q. The guy at best buy told me that you cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42 Inch Television set.He said on tvs over 50 inches that's when you can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p is that true?

A. it really depends what you are watching usually the higher the resolution the better however its better to watch a basketball game in 720 than 1080 becAuse there is so much going on in the background and foreground that if you viewed it in 1080 you'll get somewhat of a streaking effect with the panning of the camera. but if you watched something like kungfu panda 1080 you'll get a better picture because of the detail in the animation. it goesw back to depending on what you are watching

Can the human eye tell the difference between 1080p and 720p in videogames?
Q. I am planning on getting an HDTV for my PS3, but the thing is, the 1080p TVs are way more money. Can you really tell a difference between 720p and 1080p?

A. There is a difference between 1080p and 720p, but only if you put both TV's beside each other. Whether or not you think the difference in picture quality is worth the difference in price is totally up to you. The PS3 is capable of outputting games in 1080p but at the moment not many game developers are taking advantage of that. Most games are being made with 720p in mind because the hardware runs way better and much smoother at 720p than 1080p. Also, not many HD channels broadcast at 1080p either, so that may be something else you may want to consider.

Is it possible to get a 1080P screen without a good graphics card?
Q. When online vendors state that certain screens could get 1920 * 1080p do they need good graphics cards like at least 1 GB of video memory. if u got a 1080p screen with 512 gb graphics card would it have the full 1080p res?

A. The Intel integrated X4500HD can stream 1080p. Same as the Ati HD3200. It's not choppy either. Nvidia's new Ion platform is said to be able to step it up a notch in terms of 1080p playback. The GPU memory doesn't really matter. You can stream 1080p with 128MB if it's designed to stream HD content.

What's the difference between 1080i and 1080p resolutions?
Q. i've been wondering about this for a long time. so what's the difference and what does the "i" and "p" stand for anyway? HD DVD and Blu ray - What's the point, they claim they have the highest definition, when only the highest HDTV can go up to 1080p. What's up with these HD companies?

A. The difference is that the i means interlaced, and the p means progressive. It's a long story that has to do with tv's 50 years ago being unable to do all of the lines from top to bottom, so they interlaced the lines. on a screen their might be 500 lines. so, the tv would first put lines 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc on the screen, followed by 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. So they called that interlacing. the progressive format is just that, progressive! the screen starts with line 1, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ect. progressive is superior with out a doubt! the difference between HD DVD and Blu ray is that Blue ray discs hold more information. both can do 1080p resolution. BUT, blue ray has more dvd's with the highest resolution (1080p). 1080p resolution is 1920X1080.… [cont.]

How much of a difference is there between 720p and 1080p?
Q. I want to buy a 720p Westingouse TV on black friday but I kind of want to hold out for a 1080p set. Is there a world of difference between this two resolutions?
Asked by john43461 - Mon Nov 13 13:43:33 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. 1080p has way more pixels meaning a clearer picture. But it depends on the TV size, most 1080p TV's are larger than the 720p TV's. So if the TV is larger, then it will need more pixels. If you get a 720p TV and it's the same size of the 1080p, then you will see a difference since the 1080 has more pixels. But if you want a medium sized TV, then there won't be much difference if you have 720p since it will be smaller.

How to change my ps3 video settings from 1080p to 1080i?
Q. I was over my friends house, took my ps3 over and he had a 1080p tv, I changed the video settings to automatic and it switched to 1080p. I get home hook up my ps3 and no video shows. Do I have to go back to his 1080 tv and change the settings to custom/ 1080i?

A. Just turn the PS3 on then hold the power button once it's on for a while. It should make 3 or 4 beeps it should reset your settings to normal. If that doesn't work you could also hook it up to you TV with RCA cables with the HDMI cable unplugged and it should revert to that.

A. Progressive vs Interlaced is what you're looking at. For broadcast television, at least right now, its all Interlaced at 1080. The reason being bandwidth required (they don't have enough for 1080p and aren't interested to spend the money to upgrade for it). So your primary source of 1080p is going to be BluRay and maybe games. But if you're bug into those then it might be something you want to get. A progressive image is where every horizontal row is scanned (drawn) on the screen every time an image is produced. An interlaced image is where every other horizontal row is scanned each time an image is produced. Because of the nature of the human eye, we can interlace the image (or draw only half the image in rapid succession) and "tric [cont.]

A. You should set your game system and any other components to your TVs native resolution. You won't get a better picture by having the system output at a higher resolution because it will be downconverted by your TV.

What is the difference between a blu-ray player that has 1080p output vs. 1080p upconversion?
Q. I thought that all blu-ray players output in 1080p. Is this not the case?
Asked by excelonx - Thu Nov 27 19:28:41 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can tell the player to output in 480, 720 or 1080 resolution. Sony players will output 1080i out the component cable jacks, but not 1080p. For copy protection reasons you only get 1080p from the HDMI jack with Sony BluRay players. Also - BluRay players will up-convert standard DVD's to what ever resolution you say - but this only works using a HDMI cable. If you use analog cables - you only get 480 resolution. (This is not bad as most televisions also up-convert from 480 to their internal resolution).

What is a good contrast ratio for a 1080p projector?
Q. I am looking at buying a 1080p projector, (look up PLV-1080HD and click on amazon link.) It says 10,000:1 contrast ratio. I also looked at the Optoma HD20 which has 4000:1. Will this make a huge difference? Also will the lumens make a big difference and what is a good number of lumens?
Asked by Luke - Thu Apr 29 17:59:47 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Before you worry about contrast ratio, realize that you need a light controlled room (i.e. pitch black) to even begin to see the benefit of high contrast ratios. If you have that pitch black theater room, then lumens is not a big deal unless you want a massive screen (120"+). In a perfect room, a lower brightness but higher contrast projector shines. On the flip side, if you are putting this in a living room or someplace where you will have some light in the room, then contrast ratio is nice... but not critical. You need brightness in those cases (i.e. lumens). If this is case, I highly suggest the the Epson Home Cinema 8100 (1288 lumens in almost best "Dynamic" mode). Lastly, some projectors are very limited in where you can place… [cont.]

What settings do you use to make a 1080p HD video for Youtube using Sony Vegas?
Q. Also how do you make it fit the entire screen? I have posted HD videos using guides posted on Youtube in the past but they aren't 1080p and don't even come close to fitting the whole screen. There's always black bars.

A. I'm trying to find how to make it HD, but to make it full screen, go to render a video, select "Default template"(which should be below the file type selector) and hit "custom" to the right of that drop down list. At the bottom of the window that pops up, there should be tabs that say "Project", "Video", "Advanced Video", "Audio" and "System". Select video and then find "aspect ratio". It's on the right side of the window. Select "16:9" for that and then at the top, there should be "Template: Default Template". Rename it to "Full Screen", and hit the little floppy disk at the top to save it. You can now render in full screen when you have "Full Screen" enabled :D (sorry my explanation was confusing, I'm not good at explaining things xP)

Is there a big difference between 1080p and 720p?
Q. I a going to buy an HD tv soon and wanted to know if it is worth it to spend extra money to get a 1080p rather than a 720p. Is the extra quality worth the money. PS: I am mostly gonna use it for gaming, and most games are 1080p compatible.

A. For gaming with 1080p games, you will see a difference. Not so much with broadcast programming, which is a maximum of 720p (but some TVs will upconvert that to 1080i). And, you will only get the 1080p if you connect the game console to the TV using an HDMI cable. Just get a cheap one - you shouldn't spend more than $10 on a 6-foot cable. The more expensive ones don't really buy you anything. For gaming, however, the other important spec you should be looking at is video refresh rate. The standard television refresh rate (how many times a second the picture is displayed on the screen) is 60 Hz. And, if you have fast motion typical of games, you can get a multiple trailing kind of image, like if you were to move your cursor back and forth… [cont.]

A. Is your TV a true 1080p TV or is it a 720p TV that allows you to input 1080p signals (which it downscales). Unless it is a true 1080p TV, leave your PS3 as is. If not, make sure the PS3 is not in Auto mode, but in 1080p mode. Your HDMI cable is fine.

A. We can't play it in 1080p cause of xbox. all multi plat form games have to be downsized to fit xbox cause they can not handle the true hd bro if you want games in hd go with the ps3 exclusives they will give you full 1080p games like god of war 3 or uncharted 2 or killzone 2

How do I configure my monitor to output 1080p rather than 420p?
Q. In all truth it's actually a tv which I'm using as a monitor but regardless, it's capable of 1080p and is connected via HDMI but only outputs 420p for some reason. I am using Windows XP and have the ATI Radeon HD4850 1GB graphics card. How can I make my monitor/tv output 1080p?

A. Normally the TV is told by the graphics card which signal it is using. What resoltion do you have set as this will affect the scan level. 800 x 600 typically runs in 720p. If you have a problem with the card detecting the TV it may set the resoltion to Basic mode 640x480 which would be 420p

On a 32inch lcd, would i be able to tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p?
Q. will i be able to tell? even staring at it inches away from the screen? ex. two xbox360s output of 1080p, one on a 32in 1080i screen and other being a 1080p screen; both with same color ratios too.

A. At that size you shouldn't be able to tell the difference... 1080p is better than 1080i on bigger screens but that small shouldn't make a diff

How much difference is there between a 42 Plasma 720P and a 1080P?
Q. How much difference is there between a 42 Plasma 720P and a 42 Plasma 1080P, besides the 360 extra lines of resolution, (observable difference)?

A. The price of the 1080p should be higher than the price of the 720p. Also, 1080p looks better on 40" or higher as compared to 720p looking better on 40" or lower. Also, 720p is better if you are going to be playing a Wii or if you are going to be watching digital tv and 1080p is a good choice if you are going to be using a Blue-Ray.
