iMovie is a proprietary video editing software application which allows Mac and iPhone 4 users to edit their own home movies. It was originally released by Apple in 1999 as a Mac OS 8 application bundled with the first FireWire-enabled consumer Apple model – iMac DV. Since version 3, iMovie has been a Mac OS X only application bundled in the iLife suite of Macintosh applications.

iMovie imports video footage to the Mac using either the FireWire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras, the USB port, or by importing the files from a hard drive. From there, the user can edit the video clips, add titles, and add music. Effects include basic color correction and video enhancement tools, and transitions such as fade-in, fade-out, and slides.

How can you change the speed of videos on iMovie?
Q. I want to be able to watch and save my videos in different speeds on iMovie when I edit it. How can I do it?

A. What version of iMovie do you have? Can't be done with iMovie 08, it has no special effects. You need to upgrade to iMovie 09 to do that which means buying iLife 09 ($79). Regards, Zyfert

What is the best way to backup iMovie HD files on a Mac?
Q. I would like to know the best way to backup and store high-definition movie files. Should I first import them all into iMovie, then somehow copy the files onto an external hard drive? Or should I activate Time Machine with an external hard drive and let that do the work?
Asked by Brandante - Tue Jan 13 12:13:57 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I 'd use Time Machine but maybe an even better solution would be to use SuperDuper. It costs $28 but is a very worthwhile investment for your mac hard disc security. regards, Zyfert
