What does the center of a power series represent?
Q. When we write a function f(x) as a power series centered at a, what do we mean by center? If we were to look at the graph of the function, what does a represent in it?

A. 'a' is the point or neighbourhood that will give the best approximation to f(x) as you successively add to the power series (called the 'centre of convergence'.). So for example, if we were to write out the Taylor series for sin x centred on x = 0, we'd get sin x = x - x^3/3! + x^5/5! - x^7/7! + ... If we graph sin x, then overlay successive partial sums (first x, then x-x^3/3!, then x-x^3/3!+x^5/5! etc) then you would see that at the point x=0, the power series exactly matches sin x; and as we add more and more terms the region that the polynomial closely approximates sin x 'spreads out', but always centred on x = 0. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think in this case if we take the power series up to the x^7 or x^9 terms,… [cont.]

How do I center specific text and change the color of text on my myspace profile?
Q. I want to center my default picture and the mood under it. Also how do I change the color of all my text to grey? I don't want to change the color of links just the black text I want to be changed.

What questions should I ask the College Center?
Q. I'm a Junior at high school and I have made an appointment in the college center in my school to speak with my counselor about what I'm planning to do after I graduate. I also have to prepare a list of questions of which I want to discuss with my counselor, and that's my problem. So here's my question: If you were to attend to a college center appointment, what would you ask them? What are some good questions to ask them? What should I know? Any ideas? Thank you!

A. What are the best colleges for my major? What schools offer on-campus living? Is it advisable to go to a school close to home? Would you recommend community college before university? What are some things I can expect from my classes and teachers? What are some programs I could join to make paying for college easier? Are there any classes in H.S that I can take now to make college a little easier? Usually questions along those lines are good questions to ask.
