A. i don't think you have to remove the tank all the way. disconnect the filler hose and use a length of hose to siphon out the contaminated fuel. if you do have to remove the whole tank, disconnect all hoses and wiring, place a jack under the tank. remove the straps and lower using the jack. install in reverse order.

How do you remove the gas tank on a Honda Passport seventy cc scooter?
Q. My father and I have an 1981 model Honda Passport 70 with a very rusted fuel tank which we want to treat with Kreme, however we cannot figure out how to get the fuel tank out of the body of the scooter. We have to take the tank out because it has holes in in the bottom.
Asked by Zephyr - Mon May 11 21:42:49 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. you pull the lid off, 2 phillips screws on top, you disconect both fuel lines. as you pull up on the fuel tank you tip it slightly forward. it is a tight fit. Then you buy a new tank, Kreme is a nice product but, it chips around the filler neck and the fuel lines.. also a used in good condition tank costs as much as your kreme kit.

A. the item inside the tank is called the fuel sending unit, removing the tank on a b body mopar is not hard the tank is held to the underside by two straps I had a 69 charger around my filler neck were three bolts if you have that style of filler neck remove those bolts first be sure to support your tank with a floor jack before removing the straps also try to have as little gas in the tank as possible to make the job easier when you lower the tank you will see the lines connected to the sending unit mark the wires and fuel lines for proper reinstall before removal. if your tank was like mine it was full of rust, Eastwood manufacturing company sells a tank refurbishing kit if you need one.

A. Drain the tank. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Now put it up on the lift so your can get under it, and disconnect all the fuel lines going to the tank. There will be more than one, perhaps 2 or 3, fuel, return and vent lines. Unplug the electric wires. Now put your jack in place and remove the bolts holding the straps in place. Once the straps are off, the tank will be free, Lower the jack. You may have to move the tank forward or back to get it free. Installation is the reverse of taking it out.

A. If you know how to use tools, then it's not that difficult. Honda - 2002 - VTX1800C Seat - remove the two allen bolts #8 and remove the seat. Fuel Tank - unplug the fuel pump wire (fuel pump #2 - 2 prong connector at picture 25 - the wire is at the rear of the tank - take note as to how it's routed so the seat won't pinch it). Remove bolt #28 Remove rubber grommets #11 and store in a safe place (so you don't lose them). Slide the tank backwards a bit, to unhook it from cushions #18 Lift the front of the tank a bit and slide it forward, to rest on the cushions. A. First, disconect the battery! You don't want an inadvertant spark to light up the fuel. Remove the rubber lines going into the top of the tank, unplug the fuel level sending unti wires. You should see some bolts along the edge of the tank... Oh, BTW is the tank empty. They can be quite diffuclt to handle if they are not. May I ask why you are removing it? Eric

If you put a motorcycles gas tank filled with water in a freezer to remove a dent, will the tank explode?
Q. Ive been searching around on how to remove a dent in a motorcycle gas tank. One answer that i found is that you can just fill the tank with water and put it in the freezer and as the water freezes it will expand causing it to push out a dent. But my question is will it expand so much as to explode the tank. or misshape it? If anybody has any other suggestions to remove a dent that wont cost alot of money please let me know. Thanks
Asked by Fyre360 - Fri Feb 22 10:43:46 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The problem is that the freezing ice pushes out in all directions equally thereby expanding the entire tank just like blowing up a balloon. The whole tank will be distorted and most likely your dent will still be there. I tried this approach with air pressure many years ago and ruined a tank. If the dent is small it is better to fill it with body filler, or if you can access it through the filler neck, you might be able to use a pry bar to push the dent out. (Be careful not to damage the rim of the fill or the gas cap wont seal anymore) As far as some miracle cure for a dent that will simply make it disappear, there are none. (Regardless of what you see on TV)

My car won't start after I get gas or remove the gas tank cap.?
Q. When I get gas. The car will stall out if left running. If I turn it off the gas pedal will need to be pumped at least 10 times to get it to start. Then I have to rev it up for 20 to 30 seconds and then it runs fine till the next fill up. If you just crank and don't pump it will never start! whats wrong?

The best way to remove factory sticker from Gas Tank?
Q. Hubby just got a new Honda VTX 1800 and it has that ugly "Warning" sticker right smack dab in the middle of the tank. What would be a good product to remove it without damaging the paint or finish? We've heard everything from a heat gun to wd-40. His last bike the sticker was already removed. Thank you for any suggestions. I thought the heat would damage the finish that's why I was skeptical.

A. Living in Florida, the absolute best and easiest way I've found is to just park my bike in the sun for about 15 minutes. The decals can be peeled right off, leaving no residue. I've done the hair dryer method, as well as using products like Goo Gone, etc. Both methods left a ton of residue and were way more work.

A. Water in the gas tank and lines is very common. More so than most people think it is. To help you out here, if you had a two gallon glass container with a gallon of gas in it(doesn't matter what grade), to make it run poorly, you'd have to add about another quart if not nearly a half gallon of water to the gasoline to make it really bad. Rough idling at stop lights/signs as well as stalling is an ignition system problem with some sounds of electrical problems as well. Adding the product Heet, or the newer Iso-Heet to your cars gas tank is MORE expensive than going to the pharmacy and buying a bottle of 91-100% Isopropal alcohol and adding that to you gas tank!
